For this piece I reimagined "The Creation of Adam" by Michelangelo within the context of Riot Grrrl aesthetics, combined with punk elements like the barbed wire tattoo, to powerfully showcase the important role of male allies in feminism. To draw attention to the need for solidarity and collaboration between genders in the fight for gender equality I manipulated and distorted "Feminists" and "Male Allies” text as the final print layer. The inclusion of punk elements like the barbed wire tattoo adds a rebellious edge to the composition, underscoring the idea of pushing back against societal norms and expectations. It serves as a reminder that the fight for gender equality often requires breaking down barriers and challenging entrenched systems of power. By directly addressing the need for male allies within feminism, this piece aims confronts the reality that many issues affecting women are often perpetuated or exacerbated by male-dominated structures and attitudes. It calls on men to recognize their privilege and actively work towards dismantling patriarchal systems, Whilst challenging the viewer to consider their own role in promoting gender equality and emphasises the idea that true progress requires collective action and solidarity across genders.
